Haven't blogged for a while because... yours truly landed herself on a wheelchair.

*gua gua gua*

Shocked eh?

How did it happen?

Was at Singapore for a few days last week and we decided to check out this bar at Clark Quay called the Clinic which is so morbidly themed.

So, haha, choy, no lah, I did not really land myself on a wheelchair per se.

This ah mah and all her bags. We ( I ) mercilessly murdered tonnes of people on a crowded bus with our big bags. Hehe... it was fun.

Stayed over at Carmen's place at PGP this time. And boy, that place is really like an oven. In fact, the residential halls in NUS are mostly like ovens.

NUS is huge (with shuttle buses servicing around the whole campus) and yet I managed to bump into Ser Xing and Joyce there plus bucket loads of familiar faces from AJ.
Or maybe that place is just too condensedly populated with AJcians.

Oh well, campus looked really happening and buzzing with activities with lots of people setting up stalls for whatever reasons. Even a fortune teller wanted to set up a stall there. Very enterprising of those students who brought him in. Managed to buy a 1G Toshiba thumbdrive with a pink cap for 15 bucks and I'm happy already.

The ah mah at the Clinic with her Sex on a drip. What is this man, selling sex like this? What has the world come to? And judging from her expression, the sex ain't good at the Clinic. Well, I'm not too surprised either.

Besides having wheelchair for seats, the table had wheels and drawers on them too like an operating table. And there were benches resembling hospital beds with a curtain separating one table from another like what you see in a ward.
Sitting on a wheelchair felt weird initially and it takes a while to get the hang of manoeuvering your way around.

And then we decided to see who can spin a full round fastest after being repeatedly reminded by the staff there not too venture off too far. Like anyone would want to wheel themselves away. Hello, you run also can catch up la like that. Geez.

Not too bad for a place to hang out. Go there for the novelty and for the novelty only. Drinks and service are mediocre.

Stopped over at Oldham Hell Hall too to catch up with poor old Dharlynnie still stuck there for the fourth year now.
Seeing her reminds me of how time flies. First time I met her was when she was still a teeny Sec 1-er and holy mackarel, she's in sec 4 now.

Good thing she never gained any substantial height during these years. That was Thanksgiving 2 thousand years ago.
And when we finally decided leave, the bitchy Magpie was there outside her room of all places. Freaking close shave to begin with. Imagine the amount of trouble Dharlynnie would get into for smuggling 3 outsiders in her room. THAT is a cardinal sin if caught especially by Magpie. Just our luck to bump into that monstress.
OH is getting shittier by the day with the crappiest rules ever. That said, I still miss hostel life, especially first year.

Ayam penyet at Lucky Plaza is a must. Two trips back and twice I had that.
It literally means smashed chicken but this chicken doesn't look smashed at all.
What's so great about this dish is their fiery sambal which turns the thinnest of lips into (collagen injected) bee stung ones in a matter of seconds.
Like this woman here.

The trick to getting that luscious lips is to keep adding sambal to your food. The amount they serve you with is definitely not enough. Must add thrice or 4 times that amount. Then you'll be wishing you hadn't added so much of it.

Their sour vege soup is pretty yummy as well.

And thank goodness for Vivocity which is just a bus away from NUS. Save the trouble of travelling all the way down to Orchard if you wanna go to a decent mall.

I want that hat.

This might just be a bit too much for me to stomach. C'mon, PINK JENGA , PINK TWISTER and PINK MONOPOLY? Not all three at once!

I AM SO FREAKING PISSED!!!!

IS THERE A SUDDEN SURGE IN DEMAND FOR STUDENT ACCOMODATION??

EVERYWHERE'S FULL FULL FULL!!!!

AND IT'S NOT EVEN TOO LATE TO APPLY NOW!!!!

Guess I'm destined to be stuck in 6, Southcott Walk where I'll continue to get terrorised by the resident feline and her equally terrifying mistress . Oh well, at least there's still a really cute puppy few doors away which has grown exponentially since I last saw him.

BUT, I'M STILL UPSET. >_<>

Anyways, came across this on the Tyra Banks show a while ago.

Women, it's time to rejoice for someone has finally came out with something to solve a woe to many of us.

Lo and behold, it's the

Camileon Heels!

This, of course does not come cheap. Retail price is at USD300 over. It's a combination of style and science with loads of innovation and dedication. The heels are foldable and can be tucked under the sole, transforming a pair of 3-inched heels into pretty inch high kitty heels :)

Dang, someone beat me to it. Actually have thought of coming up with something like this but it was just wishful thinking of course.

Maybe someday I'll be making a pair after the patent to it expires hah.

And so I've turned 21.

Gee, I'm eligible to vote. Wonder if I should. Or is it too late to register now?
Oh yeah, don't you hate it when you get impersonal birthday cards from insurance agents or people who send one just for the sake of doing it or because they had to?

Guess he could at least check my gender first before addressing me as "Mr Yang Shi Wei" right? Grrr....
Having read Jiaching's post on his stopover at Singapore, I couldn't help but nod at what he had to say. I've met quite a few people who have this contempt for Singapore and Singaporeans in general. I think it's this jealous neighbour syndrome most of us have. Let's admit it, the country does do everything better than ours. All the mindless bickerings that were exchanged reminds me of the person whom, jealous of the achievements of his neighbour -- the husband who got a higher salary, the children who did better in school trys to pick on them whenever the opportunity arises. That particular person is more concerned with making himself look good in the eyes of others. In an attempt to do so, he builds an impressive house with a koi pond and splendid architecture, buys several luxury cars without much effort to brush up on his character and mindset.
Make no mistake, I'm not trying to sing praises of Singapore but merely expressing what I think of it and also of our country. Neither am I an advocate for migrating to Singapore. What I have for living in that country is mostly one of ambivalence. I like that the country is thriving and constantly finding ways to improve itself. Most of the reasons for why one dislikes Singapore would run along the lines of stressful, competitive or kiasu. Things like that are double edged swords. They're good for you but too much it is just detrimental. Then again, too much of anything is bad for you. So it all boils down to how one stomachs them really. You know what, this (being go- getting and all) could be happening anywhere. I brought up Singapore just because it has a more significant impact on my life that's all.

I worry sometimes how our country fares in terms of economic growth and sustainability in the face of other up and rising countries. I haven't checked what the figures are for our country but I'm not optimistic. Leaders are not doing what they ought to and are they really leading us to where we want or are they just more concerned with fattening up their assets before they retire? The brain drain is largely felt. The people are frustrated. The younger ones are restless and concerned. The rich continues getting richer. The influential ones or those with the contacts continue to do what they want and get away with it blah blah blah...

I understand that things in general go in circles. It may be China and India's turn to shine now as the fastest growing nations ( though they still have lots to catch up on on the whole) just like how they did gazillion years ago. So will our country ever resume that glory of being the busiest trade center it was? Or are we just gonna live under the illusion of "rich" and "vast" resources that our country has and trying to make others and also ourselves into believing that we are one big happy family when people out there just turn their backs on each other in reality?

I, like many other young countrymen of mine am harbouring thoughts of settling down in other "better" countries. A year ago, I'd be saying a definite "NO" if you asked me whether I'll return. But now I'd say God opens doors for you, He might even challenge me to stay on in the place I so wanted to leave.

Enough of the somberness (if there's such a word). I think I have to sleep soon too. But just before I do so,

Still remember when blue and purple roses were the vogue flowers to give then?
Well, check this out.

Happy roses!!!

Each petal is of a different colour! How cool is that? It takes really meticulous work to achieve that by splitting the stem into different parts and then dye them separately so that the colour comes out differently for each petal that the stem has been directed to. Not sure if it's mass-produced this way cos it's just too much work.

Thinking of getting that special someone something different for Valentine's this year or just finding an excuse to pamper yourself?

Shit, why am I even advertising for them for free? So don't buy it people, I bet it costs a bomb :P

Oh lookie!

Sly has a new movie!

* Look, he's checking me out hehe.*

Reprising his role as the macho Rambo with all brawns but no brains. Bulging biceps and washboard abs, here we come~~~ *licks lips in delight*

EH WAIT!! Is that a.... ZIT under his nose??

On second thought, it looks more like a white head or even a whitish mole. Hmm....

WTH??!! We're on the movie poster!!! Bet you didn't know we had a nano-esque role in that movie eh?

What a waste of good neo print you say, but heck it, anything for the fun of it. Bet it's been removed by now.

And no, we didn't catch the movie at all. Sheesh, haven't managed to catch many good movies since I've been back.
1/3 of The Heartbreak Kid was pretty good but they deleted quite a lot of scenes. Had to leave early and it was all Aizat's fault.

I Am Legend was mostly a one man show though I find Will Smith's abs and the dog more interesting. The ending was atypical of what you'd expect from such a movie. It sucked. I'd prefer a cliched ending since I'm such a sucker for happy endings.

National Treasure 2 was all fluff and deja vu scenes. Nuff said.

The only movie I'm so looking forward to is .... 27 Dresses!!

Haha.. nothing delights me more than wedding themed chick flicks :)))

Imagine having 27 bridemaid's dresses. What's one gonna do with all of them? Sell it off? I have 2 so far and that's probably the most I'd ever get.
I love Katherine Heigl as an actress though I don't really like her as Izzy Stevens in love with short and fat George-I-forget-his-last-name. I think I have a fetish for husky voiced actresses.

That said, I miss having my fix of TV series. I miss Grey's and Gossip Girl. Guess I can only watch them when I go back cos of the faster internet connection.

The TV version is really different from the novel version of Gossip Girls. I wonder what's the point of basing it after the novel then? They could've created a completely different TV show with new characters rather than wasting money on copyrights and royalties, aite?

Anyways, will be off to Bali for a few days starting tomorrow. Can't wait to dive again!!
