I got into AIESEC!

And to be honest, I'm really, really thankful for this opportunity and excited as well to be part of this student organistion which is easily the largest in number and has highest proliferation all round the world.

It's definitely by God's grace that I got in! All glory goes to Him!

And.... I've got a job tryout tomorrow!! As a waitress at this Malaysian fusion restaurant along Hutt St which is near where I stay.
I know, I know... coming from me, this is probably a shocker eh? Well, that's because I didn't mention how I tried out at the local Chinatown food court in one of the food stalls as well! I didn't think it went that badly but somehow I just wasn't employed :( But might as well I guess, working as a food server in a "zhap fan" stall in a foodcourt, my, that's was really quite an eye opener plus I wouldn't wanna subject myself to exploitation by those cheap PRC employers!

Am I that desperate for money? Oh well.. yes and no. I just need to take ownership for the money I spend. I mean I've never in my life learnt how to budget or save for a rainy day so I guess you'd learn how to appreciate money once you start earning them? Plus, I'm pretty sick of making myself broke all the time and just hang around and wait for the next allowance to come. So yeah... I made myself broke this time by going for Maroon5!! Yay!! It's tomorrow actually..

Anyways, the restaurant is really near my house so it's a real big bonus. I used to patronise that place pretty often in fact! Their char kuey tiao is really yummy! I think it was pretty awkward when the manager looked at my house address and then looked at me probably thinking I didn't need to be working there. But I do la, seriously. Stop stereotyping people!

But the real surprise for me is actually my parents being cool bout the whole thing especially since they didn't sound too keen when I mentioned working before this.

Ah... really really hope things go smoothly tomorrow especially since I've been fed back on how my actions are too "si man" for working in a foodcourt. And I just only recently found out that I speak too softly!! Man I never knew!!! I'm as equally perplexed as you are. I definitely don't think I speak really gently nor in a very composed manner la! It's either people haven't seen that side of me or I've mellowed. Oh noooo...... Where did my Mr Hyde go??!!

Oh and I only just recently found out that I don't exactly sound like how I hear myself to be. Meaning my voice sounds different to you compared to me. So for all this time, I've always thought I sounded like how I hear my voice to be but sadly, I don't. Apparently it's caused by some stuff in the head making echoes or something which I'm sorry for not remembering what I've been told, geez! Anyways, thank you people, for never once telling me how whiny I sound! Argh... I always couldn't stand my voice on recordings but now I know better. 21 years, very very late discovery indeed.

That's it for now. Thanks for listening!

Did you know our uni actually has this mailing list where students from the same discipline get to send stuff to each other?

No doubt it's useful when the lecturers or uni admin staff send out important notices and sometimes happenings or even employment opportunities but most of the times, especially at the beginning of each semester, it's basically a market place for students to hawk or get their textbooks.

It's definitely not funny having 20 new mails everyday of people trying to sell their books but I've used that method for getting my books before so it would be hypocritical of me to condemning it right now.

Point is, a lot of other people are really getting frustrated by all this "junk" mails (it all depends on how u look at it, I definitly don't think they are all junk) . People have been recommending other means of getting your second hand books like textbookexchange.com or the community tab under MyUni.

But seriously, none is as effective as the webmail. You get your books within a day or 2 after posting up the ad. So before they start banning all these people who post book ads on the mailing list , they should really look into the alternatives cause they don't really work as well.

Anyways, back to the mailing list, received this couple days ago and I got so tickled by it I had to post it up.

The words are pretty tiny, so here goes...

It all started when this guy asked

>> Quoting Fei Teng fei.teng@student.adelaide.edu.au
:>> > hi>
> If you gays have the text book for Business Finance, labelled Business
> > Finance> > 9th Edition, contact me via email.

To which, someone responded :

Quoting Richard Hordern-Gibbingsrichard.hordern-gibbings@student.adelaide.edu.au
:> how dare you call me a gay. I take extreme offence to that, and shall be
> forwarding this email to the dean of student welfare

And then another person responded :

S/He was just asking those who are gays.

Shouldn't have responded to that if youare not....

p/s taking offence to that means sexism, and that is illegal...

Of course it didn't just end there and there was this really lengthy retaliation by Richard instead.

It says:

Hey everyone,

Understandably I have been receiving a fair few responses to my email and Ijust thought I should clarify that I did infact realise that Feng had obviously just made a careless mistake with his spelling, and wasn't actuallyimplying anything with his email. I also certainly wouldn't take offence at something so trivial.

My reply was more of a joke aimed at venting my frustration at the seemingly endless supply of spam emails that travel through my and your inboxes.Unfortunately I somehow accidently emailed my response to the entire commerce students mailing list rather than just poor Feng (as intended) and now I'm copping it something fierce haha. I also realise that it is extremely hypocritical to rant about junk emails and then send everyone two myself.

Even so, this year the textbook emails have gone beyond a joke. It needs to stop. I mean seriously, how many students on the commerce mailing list are realistically going to want to purchase a set of chemistry or french textbooks? I am aware as some of you would probably like to point out that it is only a voluntary mailing list however I do not wish to miss out on all of the careers info and genuine commerce emails that we are sent from time totime.

Is their anyway the CSU or University could perhaps look into developing aneasy-to-access book market system? I believe something of the sort exists butI fear most people are either unaware of its existence or do not properly understand how to use it. Also if any of you IT geniuses out there knew of anyway in which I could use my inbox filter settings to limit the number of book emails getting through, I (and I'm sure many others) would love to hear fromyou.

I apologise to Feng and everyone for any trouble or grief my email may havestirred up. No harm or offence intended. Oh and despite everyone's helpful suggestions otherwise, I am certainly neither sexist nor a 'narrow-mindedidiot', and do not 'have issues' with any form of sexual preference. I am tolerant and accepting of all.

I wish you the best of luck and empty inboxes for the remainder of 08.

Regards, Richard

And there were few other replies by other people but not as funny as this.

All these just make checking mail less mundane than you think it'll be.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!
Jenna this is probably gonna be all your fault for bringing up Nan and the whole ocip thing that you've got me missing the whole thing so much that I'm going through the pictures and blogging bout it even if I have 5000 things to do tonight plus the whole waking up at 6.30 in the morning for my 8am class tomorrow.

Such wonderful memories!! I truly, truly miss those times!!

It all started with this bunch of gung-ho people and 3 wonderful teachers for arranging everything. Who could forget the gruelling 5 hour journey up the mountains? I'm not sure if we were in the same truck but sigh, I miss that even. It's not everyday where you get to sit at the back of a pickup truck aite?

And the view up was so so so so amazing! Remember those starry starry nights and all the meteors we saw at the campsite? Still the best I've seen so far :)

I miss campfire too!!! Wouldn't even imagine how it would be like if we were to start one here...

" Aaaasssssssss.........

we walk to the left,
and we walk to the right,
as we walk , as we walk,
as we walk all night.
With the heel and the toes,
and a half turn around,
with the heel and the toes,
and a new friend found!"

I swear I haven't heard that song for more than 2 years now but I still remember how it goes! *beams proudly*

Oh and this too!!

"You put your right hand in, you put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in and shake it all bout!
Do the hockey pockey and .... shit I can't remember,
That's what it's all about!"

And this!!

"Head and shoulders,
knees and toes,
knees and toes,
knees and toes,
Head and shoulders,
knees and toes,
That's my body!"

Oh Jenna Jenna!!!! Remember our modified version of "Edelweiss"??? Wah... I'm damn proud of our M2 kids man..... and remember how the P2 kids always sang "twinkle twinkle twinkle stars" instead of "twinkle twinkle little stars"?? Hehe... and how they always shout through that part but start mumbling for the rest of the song...

Those starry nights at Ban Nam Ree.

The P2 boys from our class!! I wonder if they would still remember us if we were to go back now...

Our M2 and P2 class!! Oh well.... looking at "supervisor" now reminds me of those "supervisor-ish" moments at washing times. Geez... MCP!! I bet he thinks washing dishes are for girls only!
Haha.. I kinda think I'll use this (not the washing dishes part) as an example during interviews when they ask me bout "dealing with a difficult group member" LOL!

Lastly, our favourite hang out place :) Haha... I'll always remember those long, boring and freezing nights at the library...
Making cards for the kids ,
angel and mortal games,
those small encouragement cards,
our meals at the library,
trips up and down the provision shop,
all the weird but absolutely yummy junk food they sold,
the truth or dare at nights and how I got dared to bring Chow Chow to go see Ms Lee and told her how I broke up with my bf and how I punched Chow and said "that stupid guy!",
washing times,
"what is the time now, Mr wolf?",
all the games we played,
teaching times,
your optimism,
your TGIFTs and TGIFs,
debrief sessions ( I hated them! I think I dozed off half the time) ,
the camp definitely,
the photo taking sorta competition we had,
the walks up to the musuem,
the whole internet and calling our parents debacle ( haha, I almost forgot bout it) ,
the bone chilling showers,
sitting around and rant bout the food we missed,
the dance practices,
"we were strangers, starting out on a journey.....",
all the camaraderie,
all the kids,
all the NANOS,
all the people,
Ban Nam Ree.......
Khob kun for all the wonderful memories :)

It's so not funny when you get temperatures of 35-40 degrees for 2 weeks straight.

I've been wanting to make some " liang teh" but couldn't find the regular brand I always had back home and at the same time don't trust any of of the dodgy China brands they have at the grocers.

What's good to lose the heat you reckon?
